He
broke almost every body part, has many scars and almost couldn’t walk. Now you
might think that we are talking about some old man, but no, we are talking
about Orlando Bloom! And here is a small tip: don’t ever tell him that he is hot,
or he will break your legs!
Hitkrant:
In Lord
of the Rings you draw a lot of attention, and in Pi rates you are that hot
Orlando Bloom again, why are you so hot?
Orlando:
I ask
myself some times. It is better then being a monster but I don’t take it too
seriously. In reality it is no big deal. I can still walk around on the street or go to a bar without being recognized constantly. I read that I’m hot and
think by myself, that’s not bad for someone covered with scars and has
broken almost everything!
Hitkrant:
Can you
imagine that some people really get excited when you are on the big screen?
Orlando:
No,
it’s very strange. But I can imagine that people will do anything to be with
their idols, I had the same thing with Radiohead. From their first concert I
was a groupie. And I still would love to meet them!
Hitkrant:
You
almost had to give up your dream .
Orlando:
Six
years ago I fell o ff a roof and the doctors thought I could never walk again.
Fortunately, they fixed things up and
two weeks later I walked out of the hospital. I’m a person that gets hurt
easily or breaks something very easily. A very vulnerable person!
Hitkrant:
Also in
love?
Orlando:
I do
not like to talk about my personal life. In this business it’s better to build
a wall around yourself and not to tell personal things. And especially about
your love life. Being an actor makes it very difficult to find out why a woman
likes you: your looks, your work, your friends or you. When the magazines find
about your new lover, they ruin everything, especially when you just met
someone. So, that makes me more vulnerable than I was.
Hitkrant:
Is that
because when you were in school people bullied you?
Orlando:
I don’t
know, people didn’t have much time to bully me. I went to school until sixteen. I was dyslectic (I still am) and teachers didn’t interest me. I was
a little bit strange, the quiet type of guy that never joined in on anything.
Sometimes people teased me, but I wasn’t the loser of the school.
Hitkrant:
What
kind of guy were you?
Orlando:
The
quiet one. And I still am, many times. I have two sides, one that enjoys being
in the spotlight and I can also explode with anger when someone speaks to me
again about Lord of the Rings.
Hitkrant:
You
were quite angry about an article in an Australian magazine that said you were
just a small actor.
Orlando:
O f that
story. Yes, they wrote that after LOTR and POTC I would never be a great actor.
And that I would only play in drama and costume movies. And they finished the
article with: But he still is hot! It was like I only choose to play in costume
movies and I enjoyed being a sort of pin-up. Do I like being a pin-up? No f*cking
way!
Hitkrant:
Do you
have plans for the near future?
Orlando:
I will
take some time off, to relax. I lot of things have happened to me in the past
years and I feel the need to do nothing for a while. Just writing in my diary,
visiting friends, swimming, just the normal things. A lot of people advised me,
now that I’m hot, to do as many movies as I can. But I don’t want that right
now. You will see when I get back. That can be tomorrow, but also next year!
One thing is sure: I'll be back!
